It was good, JJ loaded it up with lots fan service to help wash it down. They tied up some loose ends from the first 2 disney movies, albeit with some lazy hand waving.
I am sad they didn't have any Eclipse or Sovereign dreadnoughts... or any new star destroyer designs. Instead they put an extra cannon on the Imperial I and called it day. Very lazy. Like... the design already exists and you can make fans who know about it happy by using it, I don't understand why you wouldn't.
**SPOILERS FOR HERE ON**
Here's one more layer of buffer text for you, just in case. Okay, now the spoiler talk. When it blows up a planet it blows up the whole thing. if you're going to reduce the size of the super laser you should reduce the damage too. Just have it glass a continent or only partially blow up the planet, for fucks sake. Also why is it red? Can Disney please lock down a consistent lore for laser types, It's a fricking neon roulette wheel with this shit. I can't get too mad at that though, the special edition of the empire strikes back started it
That's a big thing with the direction of modern star wars. They can't reel in what the limits of technology or force powers are so it keeps getting more and more absurd
I did like the movie though, I had low expectations and it made me happy.
The biggest thing that I liked is that they gave Rey some actual conflict and turmoil to un-marysue her a bit, so that was real good.
